The 1913 Tour of Flanders was the 1st edition of the Tour of Flanders single-day cycling race, known as one of the Monument classics.
In the 1987 Tour of Flanders, he was the hero, in that his bike got driven over by a race director car on the Koppenberg, resulting in a deformed wheel.
His biggest success came in 1984, when he won the Tour of Flanders and the Ronde van Nederland.
