In 1917, Utah Construction Company was awarded the seven million dollar O'Shaughnessy Dam contract, a controversial project that impounds the Tuolumne River in the Hetch Hetchy Valley of California's Sierra Nevada mountains.
The stations name refers to several rivers in the broadcast area: San Joaquin, Sacramento, Stanislaus and Tuolumne.

At this time, the Tuolumne River did not have a bridge, and instead was crossed by Roberts Ferry on the waterfront.

In 2007, the Members of the California State Legislature passed the bill to rename the Tuolumne River Bridge as the James E. Roberts Bridge.
Originally named the Tuolumne River Bridge, it was renamed in 2007 in honor of James E. Roberts by legislative resolution.
Mancini Park – Located along the south shore of the Tuolumne River bordering Ceres, Mancini Park was developed on land donated by conductor Frank Mancini.
