These five levels, namely Major League Soccer, the United Soccer Leagues (First Division, Second Division, and Premier Development League), and the United States Adult Soccer Association, each have their own separate qualification process to trim their ranks down to their final team delegations in the months leading up to the start of the tournament proper.
On March 14, 2008, Levey signed with the Carolina RailHawks of the USL First Division as a back-up to Chris McClellan, and continued with the team into the 2009 season as cover for first-choice goalkeepers Caleb Patterson-Sewell and Eric Reed.

After spending some time as press officer for Birmingham City, Connor moved to America where he coached in the USL First Division under John McGinlay for Cincinnati Riverhawks, Boston Bulldogs and in the Eastern Indoor Soccer League with the Lafayette Swamp Cats.
