In 2004, Gannon captained the Ireland Under 21 in the Under 21 Rugby World Championship side while playing for UCD.
In 2004, he starred in the U-21 World Cup, held in Scotland, where Ireland finished as runners-up to New Zealand.
The under-20 tournament replaced the previously held Under-19 and Under-21 Rugby World Championship's.
