He has lived in France, Ghana, Germany and Switzerland, and for many years was a lecturer at the universities of Bristol and Konstanz (where he founded and ran the university theatre).
Pollmann began her career as an assistant professor first in Bielefeld (1990–91), then in Konstanz (1991–95), teaching Latin, and she spent some time on postdoctoral studies at University College London, funded by the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Stipend (1993–95).
Than he studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science (receiving a M.Sc. in European Social Policy, 1991) and took part in numerous professional fellowship and exchange programs, including Eisenhower Exchange Fellowships in the U.S. (1992), at the Oxford University (1993–1994), at the University of Konstanz (1997–2000), at the Institute of Human Sciences in Vienna (1998) and at the CEU in Budapest (1998–2000).
Miriam Butt is Professor of Linguistics and Chair of the Department of Linguistics (Fachbereich Sprachwissenschaft) at the University of Konstanz.

She subsequently held research and teaching positions at the Institut für Maschinelle Sprachverarbeitung at the University of Stuttgart, University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and the University of Tübingen before taking up her current position at the University of Konstanz.
Her PhD work also included a two year stint at the University of Konstanz in Germany.
The Nycomed company annually awards a prize totaling 20,000 Euro to four excellent junior scientists at the University of Konstanz.

Born οn June 15, 1948 in Würzburg, Germany, Gumbrecht received his education in Paris, Munich, Regensburg, Salamanca, Pavia and Konstanz, receiving his Ph.D. at the University of Konstanz in 1971 where he was also an assistant professor from 1971 to 1974.
He received his Ph.D. in 1987 at Vienna University of Technology, and held positions at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin (WZB), King's College London, the University of Konstanz and the University of Bonn.
