Almè, a municipality in the province of Bergamo, Italy
The DAI was modeled after the Casino in the gardens of the Villa Farnese at Caprarola, and the front hillside stairway after the Italian Renaissance garden stairs at the Villa d'Este, near Rome, and Italy.
He had the Villa d'Este built in Tivoli by Mannerist architect Pirro Ligorio, to match the other palaces he was building in Rome.
There were several similarly named gardens, named after the gardens of the Villa d'Este in Tivoli near Rome, of which none remain today.
Its source is located at the foothill of Canto Alto in the municipality of Sorisole; the river subsequently crosses the municipality of Almè, Paladina, Mozzo and Ponte San Pietro where his waters enter in the Brembo River.
Jean Garrigue's volume of poems A Water Walk by Villa d'Este (1959) continues a long tradition of poetry inspired by the gardens.
