Jimi "Dexter" Simmons was a Muckleshoot/Rogue River Indian man who was accused of killing a prison guard in Walla Walla Penitentiary in 1979.

Mitchell Rupe (1955–February 7, 2006) was a convicted murderer who died of liver disease in the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, Washington.
He graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1970, and in 1975, he was hired by the Washington State Department of Corrections to work as a prison guard at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla.
Washington’s capital punishment law requires that capital punishment imposed by the state’s courts be carried out at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla.
