In September 2012, Balchder Cymru came to public attention after it was reported by the Western Mail newspaper that the group had shared a public platform with leader of Plaid Cymru, Leanne Wood, the previous year.
Before his first book was published in 1938, Davies' work appeared in the Western Mail, the Merthyr Express, the Daily Herald, the Left Review and Comment (a weekly periodical of poetry, criticism and short stories, edited by Victor Neuburg and Sheila Macleod).
The Western Mail was founded in 1869 by the 3rd Marquess of Bute as a Conservative newspaper.
