The film touches on many of the styles of music that make up country music, including: Old-time music, Cajun music, Folk music, Rockabilly, Western music, Western swing, the Bakersfield sound, Honky-tonk and the Nashville sound.
From the 1970s until May 2002, the station was also known for its country music heritage, as well as being nationally famous for western swing music, harboring such musicians as Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys, Johnnie Lee Wills and disc jockey Billy Parker, who has won awards as country music disc jockey of the year.
The Light Crust Doughboys were charter inductees into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame in 1989, and were also inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
In 2009, their song "Old Alton Rag" was featured in a television commercial for Jack Daniels and in 2012, the band was named "Western Swing Group of the Year" by the Academy of Western Artists.
And now the best part... in his research for the new book on The Cain's Ballroom, author, music historian, and Western swing expert John Wooley has discovered that Danny Cain (he had dropped the last "e" by the time Kwai Chang arrived in America) had settled in Skedee, Oklahoma, and was what we would think of now as an "old time fiddler" playing jigs and dance tunes popular at the time.
