He died at Bierley, at Mr. John Pollard's house where he was buried close to the east wall of Cleckheaton chapel.

William Baines (composer/pianist) (1899-1922), lived here from 1913-18, when his father (later replaced by himself) was a cinema pianist at the Picture Palace.
In 1972 a Dewsbury man appeared at Wakefield Crown Court; in the words of the prosecution counsel "what the case really comes to is that this man last August in effect stole Cleckheaton station".
Sir Winston Churchill, then Prime Minister, slept at Cleckheaton Spen sidings overnight in a special train with a heavy security cordon in 1952 during election campaigning.
In 1913 the family moved to Cleckheaton and whilst there Baines was able to attend the concerts of the Bradford Permanent Orchestral Society and acquainted himself with the basic orchestral repertoire.
