Kirwan's son, William English Kirwan, a 1962 UK graduate, is currently the third Chancellor of the University System of Maryland, and former president of the University of Maryland, College Park and The Ohio State University.
Edward Harrington Jennings (born February 18, 1937 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) was the 10th President of the The Ohio State University from September 1, 1981 to August 31, 1990 and also the acting (interim) president from July 1, 2002 until October 1, 2002 after Bill Kirwan left the office.
As of 2011, the commission's co-chairs are William English Kirwan, chancellor, University System of Maryland and R. Gerald Turner, president of Southern Methodist University and founding chairman of the NCAA Certification Committee, which itself came about largely through the work of the Knight Commission.
