Butterley Hall

Following Benjamin Outram's death in 1805 his business partner William Jessop took residence.

Laigh Milton Viaduct

In 1807 the Marquess of Titchfield (later the 4th Duke of Portland) commissioned William Jessop to build a railway line between Kilmarnock and Troon.

The engineer for the whole line was William Jessop, and the resident engineer was Thomas Hollis, and he was probably allowed considerable autonomy by Jessop.

River Welland

Two reports were produced, one by George Maxwell, and the second by Edward Hare, who had been assisted by William Jessop and John Rennie.

Josias Jessop was responsible for the repair and maintenance of Rudyerd’s Tower, a wooden lighthouse on the Eddystone Rock.


Andrew Wilkinson

A resident of Boroughbridge, he was returned in 1735 as Member of Parliament for Aldborough, succeeding his late father-in-law William Jessop.
