In 1844 it was given to Margaret W. Preston, as she was the favorite stepdaughter of her father's (William Preston) wife, Polly Wickliffe.

Prestonia, Louisville

It was probably named for the local highway (then called Preston Street Road), which was in turn named after early Louisville landowner Col. William Preston.


A.Y.P. Garnett

He was the physician of General Robert E. Lee and family, as well as to the families of Generals Joe Johnston, Wade Hampton, William Preston, John C. Breckinridge, and of many members of the Confederate Cabinet and Congress.
