It was built in 1914 on a design by Tampa based architect Willis R. Biggers at 605 North Collins Street.

By 1950, the success of these efforts allowed the Museum to build of a small, professionally equipped facility where ambitious exhibitions of the work of Vincent van Gogh, Joan MirĂ³, Alexander Calder, Max Ernst, and John T. Biggers and his students from the then-fledgling Texas Negro College (now Texas Southern University).
Biggers started all 12 games for the Broncos, and made his first career reception (for a touchdown) against the University of Cincinnati in the inaugural International Bowl.
