Miraculously her family managed to weather the storm following her father's revolt and lived in seclusion in the region between the Wye Valley and River Monnow valley in Herefordshire between Abergavenny and Hereford near the Golden Valley, Herefordshire.

It was built in 1876 during the construction of the line on the Monmouthshire side of the River Wye at Bigsweir, and was intended to serve the nearby villages of St Briavels across the river in the Forest of Dean and Llandogo which is further down the Wye Valley.
The writer Flora Klickmann (1867–1958), who wrote several popular books about her experiences of living in the Wye valley as well as on other subjects, is buried at Brockweir.
