SR Croatia was the most successful republic of Yugoslavia at Eurovision, with 11 of the 27 entries that won the Yugoslavian selection for the Eurovision Song Contest being Croatian.
Prior declaring independence in 1991, as a constituent country of SFR Yugoslavia, the Socialist Republic of Macedonia participated in the Yugoslav pre-selection called among the other Yugoslav federal units.
The Yugoslavian national final to select their entry, Yugoslav Final 1989, was held on 4 March at the Grand Hall of the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad, and was hosted by Dina Čolić and Boško Negovanović.
