On 1 June 1945, at the age of 21, the young airman was killed by the enemy Anti-aircraft warfare during a risky dive bombing mission against a Japanese site located in Subic Bay.
The group converted to Republic P-47 Thunderbolts in July and supported the assault on southern France in August by dive-bombing gun positions, bridges, and radarfacilities, and by patrolling the combat zone.
Historically, this was conducting primarily through level- or dive-bombing and strafing runs (and in some cases by suicide (Kamikaze) attack).
In November 1941 some Hawker Hurricanes were received for simulating dive-bombing and low-level attacks and in June 1942, de Havilland Tiger Moths were allotted for use in AA radar alignment checks.
