10 unusual facts about jersey barrier

400-series highways

Lanes of opposing directions should always be separated either by a grass median, usually of sufficient width to prevent cross-directional collisions, to provide drainage, and may allow for future expansion, or an "Ontario tall-wall" concrete barrier if a grass median is not feasible (the tall wall is based upon the Jersey barrier but is not reinforced and higher at 1070-mm).

400-series highway design has set the precedent for a number of innovations used throughout North America, including the parclo interchange and the modified Jersey barrier design known as an Ontario Tall Wall.

Garden City Skyway

The construction work included an Ontario "tall-wall" concrete median barrier, new bridge parapets, and the installation of shaded high-pressure sodium lights using the existing truss poles.

Interstate 129

For the rest of I-129's length, the two directions of I-129 / US 20 / US 75 traffic are separated by a Jersey barrier instead of a grassy median.

Jersey barrier

The 2010 G-20 Toronto summit used a modified modular Jersey barriers with wired fencing bolted onto the concrete.

In Ontario, the Ministry of Transportation is replacing guiderails (steel guardrail and steel box-beam) with these barriers on 400-series highways.

The fence used the barrier as sturdy base to prevent protesters from toppling the fence around the security zone at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Korean War Veterans Parkway

The parkway continues as a four-lane limited-access highway to Greenridge, where the road merges with the northern half of Drumgoole Boulevard to create a four-lane, two-way surface street with a Jersey barrier in the median.

Maryland Route 158

The two-lane state highway curves east and closely parallels the northbound lanes of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway); the two highways are separated by a Jersey barrier.

Streets and highways of Arlington County, Virginia

Heavily congested during peak hours, the freeway now contains two central lanes that operate as high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes during rush hours while separated by Jersey barriers from the road's regular traffic lanes.

South Mall Arterial

The two halves of the highway are separated by only a jersey barrier until Pearl Street (US 20 and NY 32), where the arterial enters a large interchange at the western end of the Dunn Memorial Bridge.
