Her grandfather was Rabbi Joseph Carlebach, the last chief rabbi of Hamburg, and her father is Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach who served as the mashgiach ruchani at the Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin and author of the commentary on the Humash Maskil Lishlomo.
His wife and younger children were also killed during the Holocaust, one son Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach who became the mashgiach ruchani ("spiritual supervisor" of students) at the Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin in Brooklyn, New York City after the war.
Among these are Rabbi Yosef Leib Bloch, the Rabbi and Rosh Yeshiva of Telz, Rabbi Yeruchom Levovitz the Mashgiach of Mir, Rabbi Yosef Yoizel Horowitz of Novhardok, Rabbi Elya Lopian of the Knesses Chizkiyahu Yeshiva in Israel, and Rabbi Chaim Yitzchak Hacohen Bloch the chief rabbi of Bausk and Plunge.
Yechezkel Levenstein, known as Reb Chatzkel, (1895 - 18 Adar 1974), was the mashgiach ruchani of the Mir yeshiva, in Mir, Belarus and during the yeshiva's flight to Lithuania and on to Shanghai due to the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany in World War II.
