Geochronology: the study of isotope geology specifically toward determining the date within the past of rock formation, metamorphism, mineralization and geological events (notably, meteorite impacts).
The asteroid was named by Carolyn Shoemaker in recognition of Len Beadell an Australian surveyor, whose network of roads in outback Australia enabled Carolyn and husband Eugene to visit meteorite impact craters during the early 1980s.
In 2009, scientists from the University of Oslo considered it proven that the crater was formed by meteorite impact, according to Professor Henning Dypvik from the Institute for Geological Sciences at the University of Oslo.
