This lai gives a detailed description of William the Conqueror's commissioning of what appears to be a lyric lai to commemorate a period spent at Barfleur.
The French press reported on March 23, 2012 that LD Lines have chartered the Barfleur from Brittany Ferries in partnership with DFDS Seaways for their Dover–Calais service where she will be put into service starting April 27 and renamed MS Deal Seaways.
Barfleur | Battles of Barfleur and La Hogue | ''Barfleur'' |
Following the battle of Barfleur, on 29 May(NS) 1692, the French fleet under Tourville was retreating westward, in order to regain a safe harbour, pursued by the Dutch and English fleets under Russell.
Further battles included the battle of Auberoche, the siege of Aiguillon, from where he escaped prior to its lifting, a raid on Barfleur and the English victory at the Battle of Crecy, on 26 August 1346.
Dramatically, this happened to the French fleet during the pursuit after Barfleur; Tourville's squadron, unable to round Cap de la Hague with the rest of his fleet, and with anchors dragging in a strong flood, were forced to cut, leaving them to be swept along the Normandy coast to be beached at Cherbourg and La Hogue.
