Since 2007, Söderort is organized into six stadsdelnämndsområden (sometimes translated to districts): Enskede-Årsta-Vantör, Farsta, Hägersten-Liljeholmen, Skarpnäck, Skärholmen, and Älvsjö.
The railway runs between Nynäshamn in the south and Älvsjö in the north, where it joins to the main southern railway.
Örby was served by trams between 1930 and 1951 (line 19, at the time called Örbybanan, "the Örby line"), but has now bus connections with the Stockholm Metro at the stations in Bandhagen and Högdalen as well as the Stockholm commuter rail station at Älvsjö.
Line 38 runs from Uppsala C in the northeast to Älvsjö in the south via Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Stockholm C, with some trains continuing to Tumba.
