1981 he became Chief Personnel and Logistic Officer for the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus and in 1983 he became Commanding Officer of the Ordnance Battalion for 1st Armoured Division.
As Major-General, he commanded the combantant 1st Armoured Division during the 1965 September war against India and posted in East-Pakistan shortly after the war was ended.
Landed at Cherbourg as the rest of the BEF retreated to Dunkirk, 1st Armoured Division unsuccessfully attacked the German bridgeheads over the River Somme before returning to Cherbourg where the remnants (including the brigade's last 13 tanks) were evacuated.
