He joined the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in May 1985 and was stationed with 1st Battalion 7th Marines (nicknamed First Team) until July 1991, serving in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
He was returned to the U.S. and assumed duties with the First Battalion, Seventh Marines, until August 1934, at which time he was again transferred to Marine Corps Headquarters.
