Based on a T.R.U. Story is the debut studio album by American rapper 2 Chainz, released through Def Jam Recordings (Universal Music Group) on August 14, 2012 in the United States.
It was headlined by the Kokomaster and 2 Chainz; the concert featured performances by Kay Switch, Phyno, Olamide, Mafikizolo, Fally Ipupa, and Naeto C.
Boasting a blend of dancehall, hip hop and pop styles, the album features guest appearances from Damian Marley, Iggy Azalea, Nyla Of Brick & Lace, Konshens, Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz, Juicy J and writing from MNDR.
He has since confirmed that songs with Future, Rick Ross, Chris Brown, 2 Chainz Young Jeezy and Trey Songz will be featured on the album.

Young was ultimately featured on two tracks, including: "The Morning," along with Raekwon, Common, Pusha T, 2 Chainz, Kid Cudi, and D'Banj, as well as "Sin City," alongside John Legend, Teyana Taylor, Malik Yusef, and Travi$ Scott.
Rapper's Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, and Brisco freestyled over the beat on Lil Wayne's mixtape 'Lil Weezy Ana Vol.
Baze was signed to CAA in early 2012 for music and acting, securing a spot on Ludacris' college tour, performances with 2 Chainz, as well as direct support on Childish Gambino's 2012 'Camp' tour.
Cameos include Ludacris, 2 Chainz (then known as Tity Boi), Fate Wilson (also known as Lil Fate), Jazze Pha, and also even Big Gipp.
In 2012, rapper 2 Chainz sampled "The Old Dope Peddler" for his song "Dope Peddler," from his album Based on a T.R.U. Story.
In addition, the single "Down 4 My Niggaz" is affiliated with Alpha Phi Alpha and was quoted in many later rap songs, such as by Lil Wayne in 2 Chainz' song "Yuck!", by Tyga in Hit 'Em Up, by Future in DJ Khaled's No New Friends, by Kanye West in Blood on the Leaves, and many more.
On October 9, 2012 2 Chainz performed the song along with "Birthday Song" at the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards.
