At the corner of Lonsdale and Russell Street is 24 hour Greek restaurant Stalactites, which is famous, amongst other things, for being the celebration place of Cypriot tennis player Marcos Baghdatis during his 2006 Australian Open campaign.

The Swede competed in the 2006 Australian Open, losing to 20th seed Radek Štěpánek 6-1, 6-2, 6-2, and at the 2009 Australian Open, but lost in the first round 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 to eventual semi-finalist Andy Roddick.
She retired from professional tennis after a first round loss at the 2006 Australian Open against Akgul Amanmuradova.
During her career, she has beaten two Top 10-ranked players so far – Anastasia Myskina at the 2005 Qatar Total German Open and Elena Dementieva at the 2006 Australian Open.
