In 2009 he conceived and directed the launch of the Delhi 2010 Queen's Baton Relay from Buckingham Palace and was Artistic Director for the Ceremonies of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa.
In the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, USA forwards Jozy Altidore and Charlie Davies used this dance as their goal celebration, making it a popular reference in the underground US Soccer scene.

In the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup he handed out a controversial red card to Ricardo Clark of the United States vs. Italy, causing the United States side to play a man down for an hour against the World Champions.
Initially he was qualified to play for the Egypt national football team, but was denied by then coach Hassan Shehata stating that "not every Egyptian playing for a foreign league qualifies to play for the national side" as the Egyptian side then was very successful with 3 consecutive African Cup of Nations wins and performed well in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.
