2nd Battalion 6th Marines

The exploits of the 2/6 were immortalized in the WWII classic novel, "Battle Cry", by Leon Uris.

From May to July 1941 2/6 reassigned to the 1st Provisional Marine Brigade and deployed to garrison Reykjavík, Iceland against possible German invasion.

George B. Crist

Following his graduation from the Armed Forces Staff College in 1968, he commanded the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

James M. Sellers

In April 1917, shortly after the United States entered World War I, Sellers joined the United States Marine Corps and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the 78th Company, 2nd Battalion 6th Marines.

Joseph F. Dunford, Jr.

In 1995, he joined the 6th Marine Regiment as the executive officer, then went on to command 2nd Battalion 6th Marines from 1996 until 1998.

Robert S. Kennemore

Staff Sergeant Kennemore joined the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, at Camp Lejeune, in October 1949, and with the outbreak of the Korean fighting, moved with the battalion to the west coast in July 1950.
