Lead singer Rob Crebbin stated in an interview that the name comes from the fact he has large hands and had an old E.T. toy which sat on top of his television – "the other band members used to say he had fingers like mine and someone said they're 4ft Fingers and so we went with that".

The band started to set sight their sights out of the local area and played around the UK gaining a large following in the UK punk underground and playing with such bands as Mustard Plug, No comply, Spiderplug (Later Adequate 7), Lightyear (band), Five Knuckle, Big D & The Kids Table, King Prawn, Capdown and formed a growing friendship with the band 4ft Fingers.
They played over 500 shows in their existence, touring with many bands including Streetlight Manifesto, spunge, Whitmore, Flood Of Red, Reuben, RedLightsFlash, Ten Foot Pole, Farse, 4Ft Fingers and many others.
