Today the 5th Maine's memory is preserved at the Fifth Maine Regiment Community Center at Peaks Island, Maine, formerly a reunion house for the regiment's veterans.
Jackson re-entered the Union Army on September 3, 1861, as colonel of the 5th Maine Infantry.
