The 6th Airborne Division was the second of two airborne divisions formed by the British Army during the Second World War.
The battalion was ordered to move into the area of Douvres-la-Délivrande and were then ordered to move east of the Orne River to reinforce the 6th Airborne Division.
As second-in-command he carried the commander of the 6th Airborne Division, Major-General "Windy" Gale into Normandy, crash landing after being caught in a storm.
He went on to serve with the 6th Airborne Division in the Ardennes and the Rhine from 1943.
For this operation, 6th Airborne Division included the 1st Belgian Infantry Brigade and the Royal Netherlands Brigade (Prinses Irene), which were to gain "operational experience in quieter sections of the line in the hope that ultimately they would return to their own countries and form nuclei around which larger national forces might be organized".
2010 saw the band begin outlining ideas for a second album, and in July issued a DVD that not only featured videos for both "6th Airborne Division" and "Night Boat to Cairo", but also included the filmed footage of the recording session with Harry Patch It was also announced that the title for this next work would be "Black Heart Of Empire" and would feature an appearance from the soprano Lori Lewis (Therion).
