From 1925 to 1929 he was an instructor at the United States Army War College at Washington Barracks, now Fort Lesley J. McNair before being placed named to command Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia and the 6th Cavalry Regiment until 1931.

The Battle of Big Dry Wash was fought on July 17, 1882, between troops of the United States Army's 3rd Cavalry Regiment and 6th Cavalry Regiment and members of the White Mountain Apache tribe.
In May 1998 11th Aviation Group deployed to Tuzla, Bosnia with HHC and 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment as part of Operation JOINT GUARD/FORGE.
