In 1965, the DATAR gives funds to Jean Bertin to help him create his company, the "Société d'Etude de l'Aérotrain", which aims to build a new hovercraft train.
An experimental Aérotrain was built, from Gometz-le-Châtel to Rambouillet, for test, from 1966 to 1977, from a creation of Jean Bertin (train engineer).
A 2002 design, specifically designed to use the disused Aérotrain monorail track near Orléans, is more accurately described a tricycle: although it has five wheels, two are actually used for guidance, being placed on either side of the monorail support.
