Big Japan Pro Wrestling was founded in March 1995 by former AJPW wrestlers Shinya Kojika and Kendo Nagasaki, during the boom period for Deathmatch wrestling in Japan.
In July 1990, he won the AJPW Double Cup tag-team title with Jumbo Tsuruta, but within days, he joined Tenryu in creating the Super World of Sports promotion.
The small federation grew over the years and is now an independent league that runs as a promotion, wrestling school and talent loan organization to various other leagues such as AJPW, Dragon Gate and Michinoku Pro.
On August 20, 2006, Sugi played a new character, called Ahii, in All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), the result of a cooperation between Sanrio Company Ltd. and the AJPW.
His last title reign in NJPW was an IWGP Tag Team Championship with disciple Osamu Nishimura in October 2001, and his last title shot ever was an AJPW Triple Crown bout against Keiji Mutoh in December of the same year (Mutoh had not affiliated himself exclusively with AJPW at the time).
After returning Bushi teamed with AJPW's top star Keiji Mutoh as well as luchador Super Crazy.
