Shobhakar met Ustad Aashish Khan briefly when he came to do a concert in Bombay and stayed at Shobhakar's apartment.
Khan has also collaborated with the inventor of the Mohan Veena, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Ustad Aashish Khan the great Sarode player of the Maihar Gharana, Satvik Veena exponent Pandit Salil Bhatt, Kathak Danceuse/Harmonium soloist Amika Kushwaha, amongst other greats of Indian classical music and Ghazal singers.
Lal toured with Ravi Shankar, Aashish Khan, Vasant Rai, and Ali Akbar Khan in the 1950s and early 60s and helped popularize the tabla in Western countries.
Prominent musicians belonging to the Maihar gharana include sitarists late Ravi Shankar and late Nikhil Banerjee, Allauddin Khan's son sarod player late Ali Akbar Khan, daughter Annapurna Devi and grandsons Aashish Khan and late Dhyanesh Khan.
His classical training started in 1971 under the guidance of Aashish Khan, and from 1973 under Aashish's father, Ali Akbar Khan.
In an interview, Indian sarod player Aashish Khan, (who was also a performer in this event) told that Tejendra Narayan Majumdar worked very hard to organise this musical festival and found it unfortunate that no one came forward to help Tejendra Narayan.
