The village was established in 1952 by immigrants from Iran and Tunisia, and was initially named Kfar Avdon (lit. Avdon Village) after the biblical city of Abdon in Asher tribe (Joshua 21:30), which was located in the area.

The stadium has four main stands: Tribuna José María Delgado (North), Tribuna Atilio García (South), Tribuna Abdón Porte (West), Tribuna Héctor Scarone (East), named after famous Nacional players (like Atilio García, Abdón Porte and Héctor Scarone) and a chairman of the club (José María Delgado).
The Baroque church of St. Abdon und Sennen built in 1694 is known for its precious organ and the crucifix from the workshop of Prince-bishop Bernward of Hildesheim.
