4 unusual facts about Adrienne Bolland

Adrienne Bolland

Pilots had been attempting to cross the Andes since 1913, and the National Congress of Chile had offered a prize of 50,000 pesos for the first successful crossing of the range by a Chilean (if no foreigner had done so first) between the 31st and 35th parallels, where the highest peaks lay.

Fragile and powered by Le Rhône 80 hp engines, they were not ideal for the trip, and she asked Caudron to send others.

Caudron G.3

In 1921 Adrienne Bolland, a French test pilot working for Caudron, flew a G.3 across the Andes between Argentina and Chile.

Gourdou-Leseurre GL.2

Even well into the 1930s, specialised aerobatic versions were produced as the B6 and B7 for Jérôme Cavalli and Fernand Malinvaud respectively, with a second B7 built for Adrienne Bolland.
