Bhumibol Adulyadej (born 1927), King of Thailand from 1946; son of Mahidol
In the 1969 narcotics crisis, during which hill tribes villagers in the northern territory grew opuim, King Bhumibol Adulyadej established the Royal Project centred at Fang District under his command to encourage the hill tribes to renounce opium-growing.
The Abhisit Government completed drawing up a draft Royal Decree Establishing Amphoe Galyani Vadhana on October 13, 2009 and King Bhumibol Adulyadej signed it on December 18 of the same year.
