Although "practically all historians of dark-age Britain since Bede" have thought Agitus was the Patrician Aëtius, more recent scholars Leslie Alcock and Mollie Miller have suggested this Agitus may be Aegidius.
Aegidius (or Giles) Tschudi (5 February 1505 – 28 February 1572) was an eminent member of the Tschudi family, of Glarus, Switzerland.
Giles de Coninck (Aegidius; also called Regius) (b. 20 December 1571, at Bailleul in French Flanders; d. 31 May 1633, at Leuven) was a Flemish Jesuit theologian.
The records of Arras Cathedral note that a requiem was held for Gilles, called Dominus Aegidius (Lord Gilles), on 13 November 1252.
