In 1820, as Zion was engaged in erecting its new church, the congregation was scattered across a number of temporary meeting places, a competing black denomination appeared in Richard Allen's African Methodist Episcopal Church, that was trying to build a national organization from its Philadelphia base.
The publication is primarily distributed to small- to mega-churches in all denominations and church organizations, i.e., Full Gospel, C.O.G.I.C., Southern Baptist and A.M.E., across the continental U.S. and Bahamas.

Founded one year after the Siege of Vicksburg, in 1864 in Vicksburg, Mississippi by Reverend Page Tyler, a missionary from Indiana, it is the "first"church of the Jackson-Vicksburg District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
While Hogan's Alley and the surrounding area was an ethnically diverse neighbourhood during this era, home to many Italian, Chinese and Japanese Canadians, a number of black families, black businesses, and the city's only black church, the African Methodist Episcopal Fountain Chapel, were located there.
It now included all Canadian Methodists with the exception of several very small groups: the British Methodist Episcopal Church (a development of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, serving chiefly people of colour), two German-speaking bodies (the Evangelical Association and the United Brethren in Christ), and the Free Methodist Church (a body that had begun in New York State in 1860 and extended itself into Canada.)
