Ahr

Its source is at an elevation of approximately 470 metres above sea level in Blankenheim in the Eifel, in the cellar of a timber-frame house near the castle of Blankenheim.

Tributaries of the Ahr are (from the mouth to the source): Harbach (Ahr), Hellenbach, Bachemer Bach, Leimersdorfer Bach, Liersbach, Vischelbach, Sahrbach, Kesselinger Bach, Armuthsbach, Dreisbach (brook), Eichenbach, Adenauer Bach, Trierbach and Ahbach.

Dernau

The village of Dernau which is centrally located in the Ahr valley is famous for its wines.


Basalt cross

Their geographic distribution is centred on the basalt quarries of Mayen and Mendig, and covers an area with a radius of approximately 30 kilometres between the Rhine, Ahr and Moselle rivers.

Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad

In 2012 the Cumbres and Toltec signed a contract with American Heritage Railways to operate the railway; AHR also owns the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, and formerly was operator of the Texas State Railroad.

Winemaking cooperative

One of the first winemaking cooperatives founded on the basis of this legislation, Winzerverein Mayschoß, was established in 1868 in the Ahr region and is the oldest German winemaking cooperative still in existence.
