Entering the comics industry after WWII, some of his earliest lettering was for Hillman Periodicals' Airboy and Real Clue Crime Stories, which connected him with the Simon & Kirby team.
Hillman's most notable character, however, continuing in new stories by another publisher, Eclipse Comics, in the 1980s, was the Charles Biro, Dick Wood and Al Camy-created aviator-adventurer Airboy in Air Fighters Comics and its successor, Airboy Comics.
His credits as an inker include the Airboy series, Batman: Shadow of the Bat, the 1993 Black Orchid series, the 1980s version of the Doom Patrol, and the Robin continuing series.
