Animals found in Akamas include fruit bats, shrews, hedgehogs, foxes, snakes, lizards, Griffon vultures, Cyprus Warblers, and Cyprus Scops owls.
North-west of the District is the Akamas peninsula which contains a national park where the reproduction of the green sea turtle is a protected activity.
