In 1980, Brighton's Alan Mullery reportedly put in a bid for both Cooper and Gordon Smith.
After Venables left Loftus Road in 1984 for Barcelona, the side quickly fell apart under the unsuccessful reign of Alan Mullery and many players including Stainrod left the club.
However, for reasons unknown, he was replaced with the highly unpopular Alan Mullery.
