Following the end of the 2013 Super Rugby season, on 30 July, it was announced that Director of Rugby Alan Solomons was leaving the Kings to take up the role of Head Coach of Edinburgh Rugby.

He inititally joined the Murrayfield team on a trial basis in September 2013, before putting pen to paper on a contract running until summer 2013, after impressing Head Coach Alan Solomons.
