The larvae of the nominate subspecies are whitish and feed on Acacia koa, Aleurites moluccana, Cheirodendron gaudichaudii, Coprosma foliosa and other Coprosma species, Metrosideros, Pipturus, Rubus hawaiiensis and Smilax sandwicensis.
