From 1935 to 1939 he served as junior instructor in the Defence League Viljandi County Territorial Regiment, between 1939-1940 in the Lääne County Territorial Regiment.

The village was burned to the ground in 1943 by the Estonian collaborationist 658th Eastern Battalion under Major Alfons Rebane.
