Allgäu

Fendt tractors, developed and produced in Marktoberdorf are one of the most famous products of the region.

Brutal Verschimmelt

First concerts happened in Allgäu in the vicinity of the band B.Trug which, being the older punks, pulled the younger ones with them.

DB Class 210

Since the DB V 169-001 (DB 219 001) had already proven sufficiently that a locomotive of this type would work the Class 210 went into normal operations fairly quickly - between the end of 1970 and the beginning of 1971 the locomotives began operations, by the end of 1971 all eight locomotives had been introduced to the railway centre (Bahnbetriebswerk or Bw.) at Kempten and were in scheduled operation.

ECARF Quality Seal

The Baltic Sea resort community of Baabe on the island of Rügen and Bad Hindelang in the Allgäu region currently carry the ECARF Quality Seal as “allergy-friendly” communities.

EuroCity

Preparations for privatisation of Deutsche Bahn led to the discontinuation of names for the EuroCity services in Allgäu on 15 December 2002, and for the other German-operated EC trains on 12 December 2004.

Haferlschuh

According to legend, in 1803 Franz Schratt, an alpine shoemaker from Oberstdorf (located in the Allgäu region of the Bavarian Alps) developed the Haferlschuh inspired by the goat hoof.

Princess Vera Constantinovna of Russia

Princess Vera followed her mother half a year later after spending sometime in Oberstdorf in the Allgäu region of the Bavarian Alps recuperating from tuberculosis.


Al Gromer Khan

Né Alois Gromer, Al Gromer Khan was born on April 8, 1946 at Frauenzell (municipality Altusried/Allgäu) in alpine foothills of Bavaria between Lake Constance and Munich.

Argen

The Upper Argen originates in a marshy area north-west of Oberstaufen in the Allgäu and initially flows through a gorge named Eistobel, then underneath the Argentobelbrücke, then past Grünenbach towards Wangen im Allgäu.

DB Class 628

Until the timetable change in 2006 they also ran to other destinations in the Allgäu, e.g. on the line from Augsburg to Füssen.

Further Austria

Also ruled from the Habsburg residence in Ensisheim near Mühlhausen were numerous scattered territories stretching from Upper Swabia to the Allgäu region in the east, the largest being the margravate of Burgau between the cities of Augsburg and Ulm.

With good visibility, the view from the summit reaches from the Allgäu and Lech valley Alps in the east, over to the Bregenz Forest, the steep mountain peaks of Arlberg region, Silvretta, and the Rätikon to the Swiss mountains and the foothills of the Black Forest in the west.
