Alois Musil

Among his discoveries was the desert castle of Qasr Amra (from the 8th century) with figural Islamic paintings.

In 1917 he journeyed through the Middle East with Archduke Hubert Salvator of Austria; there are suggestions that the mission had a political motive involving Arab Revolt against the Ottoman government.

Qasr Tuba

The site was brought to art historical attention after it was visited in 1896 by the Czech explorer Alois Musil.
