(1908 - 2002) was an engineer who served as the Chairman of the Board of Black & Decker.
After leaving the Prices and Incomes Board in October 1970, he became chair of Laporte Industries and a director of Thomas Tilling, Cornhill Insurance and Black & Decker.
After buying the company in 1949, American Machine & Foundry Co., Inc. sold it to Black & Decker in 1960.
In 2005 and 2006, Black was linked to a series of scandals involving, among other things, the party-switching Rep. Michael P. Decker, and the North Carolina lottery, established the previous year.
He was first elected in 2004 after defeating Rep. Michael P. Decker in the Republican primary.
